Haven't been posting much here because as I've mentioned before, I have a ton of things in the works and I've been developing some things. Anyway, I'm going on my first Deer Hunt starting tomorrow and I'll be shooting a muzzleloader for the first time ever. I'm not expecting anything, but will take full advantage to learn from the person who is taking me. I'll give you guys the detail when I get back Tuesday night. For the next 3 days, I'm going to be detoxing from the work I've been putting in and hopefully, I'm going to bag & field process my first deer.
Picked up a few new toys I'll be sharing here (BHK Drover, the Schrade Pocket Knife I already mentioned, the Jeff White Pathfinder French Trade Knife, and a few other doohickies including some projects I've started).
Anyhoo...best of luck to anyone who's going out for some game this season and may you get what you want. As for me, just the opportunity to go out and go on a hunt will be more than enough.
As for the newer members, you guys jumped in just in time. I'm loving your contributions. Keep feeling free to post what you like. I'm really interested in everything I'm reading, but I'm just trying to button up some projects that are related to this forum that have been very important to me.
Looks like you got your BHK stuff just in time as Blind Horse seems to be ending soon . LT & Dan will still be making knives though, only under separate names. LT's new company will be LT Wright Handcrafted Knives & Dan's new company will be Battle Horse knives.
Good luck to both of them too .
Thanks Cliff. Just got back. Had a hard shot at a doe from 90 yards with a single shot H&R 12GA, but missed her as she ducked behind a tree. Some morons decided to sight their guns the day before opening day. They had the deer all skiddish.
I'm going back out tomorrow morning pre-dawn with a good friend locally. I have a few more days to get my first deer. Tomorrow it's going to be on private land with no neighbors or public hunting for a hundred acres around. I'm hoping to bag something tomorrow with any luck.
As for BHK, I got that news last night. Sucks, but hopefully it'll work out for the parties involved. One of them will still continue to make the Scout and PLSK1. One of those two knives will be my next knife for sure. Damn. Dave just came out with a Kephart Knife Original Re-Make. I might play with a prototype this weekend. I'm sure that Dan & LT will both continue to produce great products. After having played with the BHK for a while, I'm becoming a big fan of O1 steel.
Within the past month or so, I've picked up that Schrade Uncle Henry Folder, a BT Custom, a Jeff White French Trade Knife (which is AWESOME) and a BHK Drover. Oh yeah, how could I forget the BHK Bushcrafter.
Oh, and BTW, I'm switching up my whole camping set-up soon and will be having a clearance sale on all my gear. I'm going to go with a lot of canvas and oilskin. I learned a lot about gear and what "really" matters recently from some good folks.
